Chandigarh, February 7, 2025: In response to the ongoing deportation controversy, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Gupta has formed a four-member Fact-Finding Committee, also known as a Special Investigation Team. This committee will be chaired by Parveen Sinha, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) for NRI affairs, and will include Shive Verma, IPS, ADGP for Internal Security; Dr. S. Boopathi, IPS, Inspector General of Police (IGP) for Provisioning; and Satinder Singh, IPS, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Border Range.
The committee has been tasked with investigating issues related to illegal human trafficking and migration following the deportation of Indian citizens from Punjab residing in the United States. DGP Gupta stated that the committee is empowered to take appropriate legal actions against individuals involved in illegal activities related to migration.
“The Fact-Finding Committee has the authority to enlist additional police officers as needed and will work closely with Senior Superintendents of Police and Commissioners of Police to ensure they receive all necessary support and resources,” Gupta added.
