Ghungrali (Ludhiana), February 16, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann urged the state’s youth to learn from recent deportations from the US and avoid illegal migration. He encouraged them to work hard in Punjab and contribute to its progress.
Speaking at a sports tournament, Mann emphasized that Punjab has some of the world’s most fertile land. However, he blamed previous governments for failing to create opportunities, which forced many young people to seek better prospects abroad.
“Deportations Are an Eye-Opener”
Mann called the mass deportations from the US a wake-up call. He urged young people to focus on Punjab’s socio-economic growth instead of pursuing risky migration routes.
He highlighted his government’s success in creating jobs, stating that over 50,000 government positions had been filled purely on merit. According to Mann, this record-breaking recruitment in three years has sparked “reverse migration,” with many choosing to return from abroad for job opportunities in Punjab.
Increased Job Opportunities in Punjab
The Chief Minister assured that more government jobs are on the way. The state plans to recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors annually to strengthen Punjab Police while providing employment.
“For these 2,100 posts, nearly 2.5 lakh candidates apply every year,” Mann said. He believes this has motivated young people to focus on academics and physical fitness instead of seeking opportunities abroad. Additionally, a recruitment drive for 10,000 new police personnel has already begun.
Opposition Criticized for “Misleading” Youth
Mann accused traditional political parties of misleading the people for decades. He claimed that opposition leaders, who once believed they had the “divine right” to rule Punjab, could not accept a common man leading the state.
“The people have rejected those who played musical chairs with power and looted Punjab every five years,” Mann said. He asserted that his government remains committed to fulfilling the public’s expectations.
Sports as a Weapon Against Drugs
Mann highlighted sports as a powerful tool in Punjab’s fight against drug abuse. He said young athletes remain too focused on excelling in their fields to fall into the drug trap.
The annual Khedan Watan Punjab Dian tournament, organized by the government, provides a platform for young talent. Mann believes such events help identify players’ strengths and weaknesses, preparing them for national and international competitions.
Development Push for Villages
Mann announced grants worth over ₹1 crore for Ghungrali village, funding an Aam Aadmi Clinic, solar lights, a community hall, a water treatment plant, and other infrastructure projects.
He praised the tournament organizers and said such events had stopped under previous governments. “Now, with the AAP government in charge, the people of Punjab are once again enjoying a vibrant cultural and sporting atmosphere,” he added.
Prominent attendees included Cabinet Minister Tarunpreet Singh Sondh and other officials.
