Punjab CM Reaches Jagraon to Console Families After Mathura Boat Tragedy, Extends Full Support

Chandigarh (Gurpreet Singh): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday visited Jagraon to stand in solidarity with families who lost their loved ones in the recent boat capsizing incident near Mathura, offering condolences and assuring comprehensive support during the difficult time.

The tragic incident occurred in the Yamuna river when a boat carrying pilgrims to Vrindavan overturned, leading to multiple casualties. According to officials, 11 bodies have been recovered so far, while search efforts continue for four individuals who are still missing.

During his visit, the Chief Minister met grieving families and expressed deep sorrow over the loss, emphasising that the victims had embarked on a धार्मिक journey when the unfortunate accident took place. He assured that the state government would extend all possible assistance to the affected families.

Highlighting ongoing efforts, the Punjab government has already deployed teams of divers to aid rescue operations at the site, working in coordination with authorities in Uttar Pradesh. Officials confirmed that survivors are receiving necessary medical care, while efforts to trace the missing persons remain underway.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of ensuring safety at major pilgrimage destinations, urging authorities to strengthen precautionary measures to avoid such incidents in the future. He noted that close coordination is being maintained with the Uttar Pradesh government to monitor the situation and support relief operations.

Reiterating the state’s commitment, the Chief Minister said Punjab stands firmly with the bereaved families and will continue to assist them as they cope with the loss, underscoring the need for collective efforts to ensure the safety of devotees at religious sites.
