Punjab CM Mann Vows Crackdown on Drug Smugglers, Says No Special Jail Treatment

Dhuri (Sangrur), August 10, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Sunday issued a tough warning to drug smugglers during his visit to Dhuri constituency, making it clear that political connections will no longer act as a shield against the law. While he refrained from taking any names, his statement was widely interpreted as a veiled attack on senior Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia.

“If anyone is found responsible for pushing the youth of Punjab towards drugs, they will face the consequences. On the basis of evidence, they will be sent directly to jail,” Mann asserted. Adding a sarcastic twist, he said, “In jail, there will be no pizza, burgers, or garlic bread. Those who want to know the menu can visit Nabha jail and check for themselves.”

The Chief Minister announced development works worth ₹17.21 crore for Dhuri, which include the construction of two 18-foot-wide roads in village Dhadhogal. Paying tribute to Shaheed Sardar Bhagat Singh Dhadgal on his 87th martyrdom anniversary, Mann declared that a road will be named in his honor.

Highlighting upcoming cultural and historical commemorations, Mann revealed that Punjab will observe the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji with a symbolic march from Srinagar to Chandni Chowk. Urging political opponents to rise above partisan attacks, he said, “Stop distributing certificates of patriotism.”
