Chandigarh, September 7, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has been personally overseeing relief and rescue operations from his hospital bed, reaffirming his commitment to public welfare even while recovering at Fortis Hospital.
The Chief Minister held a meeting with Chief Secretary K. A. P. Sinha, Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, and other senior officials to review the situation. Expressing grave concern over the devastation caused by floods, Mann directed officials to ensure that no affected citizen is left without aid, and emphasized the urgent delivery of food, drinking water, and medical supplies, particularly to those cut off from the mainland.
Following the review, Chief Secretary Sinha said the Chief Minister is recovering well and is likely to return to field duties within a day or two. “His heart and mind remain firmly with the thousands of families affected by the calamity. The Punjab Government is determined to rebuild every home and heal the wounds of this disaster,” Sinha said.
According to official data shared at the meeting, more than 3.87 lakh people have been displaced, while the floods have impacted over 20 lakh residents across 2,050 villages in 23 districts. The widespread damage has also severely hit Punjab’s agrarian economy.
So far, 22,938 people have been evacuated from the worst-affected regions. The government has established 219 relief camps, housing 5,404 displaced residents. Meanwhile, 176,980 hectares of crop area has been reported damaged. The floods have claimed 48 lives, with three persons still missing in Pathankot district.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the state will stand by every affected family and continue its efforts until normalcy is fully restored.
