Punjab CM Lays Foundation Stone for Heritage Walkway in Sri Anandpur Sahib

Sri Anandpur Sahib, Punjab, October 5, 2025: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday laid the foundation stone for a heritage walkway in the sacred city of Sri Anandpur Sahib. The project, aimed at enhancing religious tourism, will be developed at a cost of Rs 25 crore and is expected to be completed by March 31, 2026.

Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister described the holy city as a historic landmark where Guru Gobind Singh Ji established the Khalsa Panth on Baisakhi, 1699. He said Punjabis continue to draw both spiritual and physical strength from the site and take inspiration from it to fight tyranny and injustice. The project is also being undertaken to commemorate the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, ‘Hind Di Chadar’.

The 580-meter walkway, featuring white marble pavements and shaded trees mentioned in the Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, will be divided into two sections—one in front of the sacred Sarovar and the other leading up to the Takht Sri Keshgarh Sahib. Large, visually striking main and additional gates will be constructed to ensure architectural uniformity, while artistic paintings along the route will depict the rich history of Sri Anandpur Sahib and the Khalsa Panth.

Highlighting the government’s plans to improve connectivity, CM Mann said the state will push for rail links connecting all five Takhts and will soon begin work on the Sri Anandpur Sahib-Mata Naina Devi ropeway, aimed at boosting religious tourism.

Cabinet Ministers Harjot Singh Bains and Tarunpreet Singh Sondh, along with Advisor Tourism and Cultural Affairs Deepak Bali, were present during the ceremony.
