Punjab CM Introduces New Reward Scheme to Boost Anti-Drug Drive

Punjab Taps Market for Rs 1,000 Crore Loan Amid Ongoing Borrowing Trend

Chandigarh: In a bid to strengthen Punjab’s war against narcotics, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has rolled out a new reward policy for Punjab Police personnel engaged in NDPS cases.

As per the new rules, officers who achieve significant results in drug-related investigations will receive financial incentives. For instance, an investigating officer recovering more than one kilogram of heroin during an operation will be entitled to a Rs 1.20 lakh reward.

The Chief Minister also announced that head constables will now be empowered to handle investigations under the NDPS Act. The change is expected to reduce delays in legal proceedings and widen the police force’s capacity to deal with the growing drug menace.

Mann further revealed that the police department is set to witness around 1,600 promotions in the coming weeks. Once those promotions are completed, vacancies will be created to facilitate new recruitment drives, ensuring that fresh manpower is inducted into the force.

“The aim is to encourage officers on the ground and equip the police machinery with more responsibility and recognition. This initiative will not only motivate our personnel but will also make our fight against drugs more aggressive,” said Mann.

The policy has been described as a morale booster for the state police, which has been under constant pressure to curb drug smuggling and dismantle trafficking networks.
