Punjab CM Flags Off Free Wheat Seed Distribution for Flood-Hit Farmers

Amritsar (Punjab), October 26, 2025: In a major relief measure for flood-affected farmers, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Sunday flagged off seven trucks carrying two lakh quintals of wheat seeds to be distributed free of cost to cultivators who lost their crops across nearly five lakh acres during the recent floods.

Mann said that farmers in the state have endured immense suffering due to the floods, and the government stands firmly with them during this challenging period. To help them recover, the state has allocated wheat seeds worth ₹74 crore to ensure that affected farmers can sow the upcoming Rabi crop without financial burden.

He stated that the distribution process has already begun in the flood-affected districts and will be completed soon. Mann emphasized that Punjab’s hardworking farmers have been instrumental in making India self-reliant in food production and deserve full government support in this hour of need.

Describing the floods as one of the most devastating disasters in Punjab’s history, the Chief Minister said the calamity submerged over 2,300 villages, affected more than 20 lakh people, and destroyed crops on vast stretches of land. He added that 56 people lost their lives, around seven lakh were rendered homeless, and extensive infrastructure damage occurred — including 3,200 schools, 19 colleges, 1,400 hospitals and clinics, 8,500 kilometers of roads, and 2,500 bridges.

Mann said that preliminary estimates place the total damage at around ₹13,800 crore, though the actual losses may be even higher. He reiterated that his government will leave no stone unturned in rehabilitating farmers and restoring the state’s agricultural backbone.
