Sangrur, February 22, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann launched a major sanitation initiative on Saturday, flagging off 216 state-of-the-art super suction-cum-jetting machines to improve sewage cleaning in seven districts. Addressing the gathering at Ranbir College, Sangrur, he also announced a series of development projects aimed at enhancing sanitation, healthcare, education, and road safety in Punjab.
Advanced Machinery for Cleaner Cities
The 216 new machines, purchased for ₹14.30 crore, will be deployed in Sangrur, Barnala, Bathinda, Malerkotla, Mansa, Patiala, and Fatehgarh Sahib. Additionally, 730 more machines worth ₹40 crore have been procured to boost sanitation across the state.
Mann emphasized that these advanced machines will eliminate the need for manual scavenging, ensuring safer working conditions for sanitation workers. Trained personnel will operate the equipment, significantly improving urban sanitation and sewage management.
Medical College in Sangrur and More Institutions Across Punjab
CM Mann confirmed that all obstacles delaying the Sangrur medical college project have been cleared, and construction will begin soon. He revealed that certain individuals had attempted to derail the project for personal gains, but the government successfully removed these roadblocks.
Further, Mann announced plans to establish three new medical colleges across Punjab, providing local students with better opportunities for medical education and strengthening the state’s healthcare system.
UPSC Coaching Centers for Punjab’s Youth
In a push for youth empowerment, Mann announced the opening of eight UPSC coaching centers across Punjab, with one located in Sangrur. These centers will be equipped with libraries, hostels, and essential facilities, helping Punjab’s students compete at the national level.
Women Empowerment Through ‘PAHEL Project’
The Chief Minister lauded the success of the ‘PAHEL Project’ in Sangrur, where women are manufacturing school uniforms for government and private schools. This initiative has provided economic independence to women in rural areas. Mann stated that the project will be expanded across Punjab to create more job opportunities for women.
Sadak Surakhiya Force Reduces Road Fatalities
Marking the first anniversary of the Sadak Surakhiya Force, Mann highlighted its success in reducing road accident deaths by 48.10%. Punjab is the first state in India to establish such a force, and other states are now seeking Punjab’s guidance to implement similar models.
