Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann Assures Support for Deportees Ahead of US Flight’s Arrival

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has said that his recent press conference prompted key changes in how the Centre is handling the return of Indian immigrants deported from the United States. The deportation flight is set to land at Amritsar airport at 10 PM today (Saturday), and Mann has assured that necessary arrangements are in place for those arriving.

Revised Arrangements for Deportees

Mann stated that unlike last time—when deportees were dropped off at a distant location—this time the flight will arrive directly at the passenger terminal. He outlined the following measures:

  • Punjabis among the deportees will be allowed to walk out of the airport freely.
  • Haryana residents will also receive the same facility.
  • Individuals from other states will be provided accommodation before being flown to their respective states.

“This is the land of Guru Ramdas Ji, where food and shelter are always available. No one will go hungry here,” he assured.

Criticism of the Centre Over Flight Arrangements

Mann criticized the Modi government, stating that India should have sent its own flights to bring back deported citizens.

“PM Modi should have arranged Indian flights for them. I am still trying to convince authorities to land the flight elsewhere,” he said.

He also pointed out that the Centre acknowledged Punjab’s concerns about a foreign military aircraft landing in a border state and agreed to alter their approach.

Action Against Fraudulent Agents

The Punjab government will investigate fraudulent immigration agents who may have misled these individuals and contributed to their deportation.

“We will track down those responsible for deceiving these people and help the victims recover from their losses. Our government will also assist them in rebuilding their careers,” Mann stated.

The Chief Minister confirmed that he will be present at Amritsar airport tonight to personally oversee the arrival and ensure all necessary support is provided.
