Phillaur (Jalandhar), April 3, 2025 – Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has announced a major push to modernize Punjab Police with new infrastructure and advanced technology to strengthen law enforcement.
At an event marking the launch of 139 new police vehicles, Mann emphasized that Station House Officers (SHOs) at 454 police stations are now equipped with upgraded vehicles, ensuring frontline officers have the necessary resources. He noted that Punjab, as a border state, faces security threats but assured that the police force is being strengthened with modern tools and scientific investigation techniques.
Mann highlighted the growing use of drones for drug smuggling, revealing that 70% of drugs entering Punjab come from Pakistan via drones. The state, in collaboration with the BSF, has deployed anti-drone technology, significantly reducing smuggling operations. BSF reports confirm a decline in cross-border drug consignments.
To address the police personnel shortage, the government will recruit 1,800 constables and 300 sub-inspectors annually, with around 2.5 lakh candidates applying for these 2,100 positions each year. Mann said this initiative is channeling youth toward academics and fitness while keeping them away from drugs.
Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace, he stated that supply chains have been dismantled, major traffickers arrested, and for the first time, drug smugglers’ properties are being seized and demolished.
Mann also highlighted employment efforts, stating that the government has provided 55,000 merit-based jobs over the past three years without corruption or favoritism. He reiterated a zero-tolerance policy against corruption, warning that strict action will be taken against corrupt officials.
Additionally, he introduced a mentorship program where senior IAS and IPS officers will adopt government schools to guide students and inspire them to pursue prestigious careers.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav welcomed the Chief Minister and other dignitaries at the event, underscoring the government’s commitment to strengthening Punjab’s law enforcement and governance.
