Faridkot, January 19: Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan on Sunday flagged off a bus carrying devotees from village Bir Chahil in Kotkapura constituency under the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme for pilgrimage to Sri Amritsar Sahib and other prominent religious destinations in the region.
Addressing the gathering, Sandhwan said the Chief Minister Tirath Yatra Scheme is a significant welfare initiative of the Punjab government aimed at providing free and comfortable pilgrimage facilities to devotees.
He said the scheme has enabled a large number of people to fulfil their long-cherished desire of visiting religious places and attain spiritual peace.
The Speaker said devotees on this journey will pay obeisance at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Durgiana Mandir and other sacred shrines. He emphasised that the entire cost of the pilgrimage is being borne by the Punjab government, ensuring that devotees can undertake the journey without any financial burden.
Extending his best wishes to the pilgrims, Sandhwan said the government respects the religious sentiments of people and will continue to launch such public welfare schemes in the future.
On the same day, buses carrying devotees were also flagged off under the scheme from village Bhagthala Khurd in Faridkot constituency and village Ghaniyewala in Jaito constituency.
Officials and local leaders present on the occasion included BDPO Faridkot Nattha Singh, BDPO Jaito Iqbal Singh, Manpreet Singh Mani Dhaliwal, Jagjit Singh Jaggi, Sukhwinder Ladi Dhuddi, Jaspreet Singh Chehil, Harvinder Singh, Jeet Singh Chehil, Angrez Singh Chehil, Paramjit Singh Chehil, Babu Singh, Sarpanch Jalor Singh, Jaswinder Singh Dhuddi, Jasveer Singh and Gurcharan Singh, among others.
