Punjab Aims to Become National Education Hub, Expedites University Status for Private Colleges

Historic Achievement: 32 Students from Punjab Government Schools Crack JEE Advanced

Chandigarh, June 2, 2025 — Punjab Higher Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has declared the state’s intention to emerge as India’s education hub by accelerating the approval process for private colleges seeking university status. In a high-level meeting with representatives from 18 private institutions, Bains directed officials to eliminate delays and ensure merit-based, transparent evaluations of all pending applications.

He appointed Director Higher Education Girish Dayalan as the Nodal Officer to oversee and monitor the proposals in real time. The minister emphasized that the state government under Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is committed to streamlining higher education reforms and creating better academic and employment prospects for Punjab’s youth.

“Our goal is to build a vibrant, efficient, and student-centric higher education ecosystem that integrates public and private efforts. We will not tolerate unnecessary red tape and are working towards positioning Punjab as the academic powerhouse of India,” Bains stated.

Among the institutions in attendance were CGC Group Mohali, Rayat Bahra Hoshiarpur, Sri Sukhmani Group Dera Bassi, Babe Ke Group Daudhar, Sher-E-Punjab University Lalru, JIS Group Ludhiana, and Baba Farid Group Bathinda. Stakeholder feedback was welcomed, and the minister assured a facilitative and responsive governance approach going forward.
