Chandigarh, January 9 — Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Friday adopted a tough stance on law and order, making it clear that any negligence in controlling crime will not be tolerated at any level. He said officers posted in police stations where crime is not effectively brought under control will be held accountable and may face strict action, including demotion, if required.
The Chief Minister was speaking to reporters after a pre-budget consultation meeting in Faridabad.
Saini said he has stated earlier as well that the Haryana Police is a strong and capable force. However, if crime or illegal drug trade is increasing in any area, the concerned Superintendents of Police and station in-charges must undertake serious self-assessment. He said it is the responsibility of officers to regularly review the situation, identify the root causes of problems and ensure concrete solutions.
He said when common citizens, especially women, raise complaints about crime or illegal activities in an area, it becomes the duty of the police and administration to take immediate and effective action. Reiterating the government’s commitment, the Chief Minister said maintaining law and order is the topmost priority and no lapse will be condoned.
The Chief Minister directed officers to further intensify campaigns against crime and drug trafficking to ensure a safe environment for the public and to strengthen good governance across the state.
