Protest Continues at Panjab University Against Senate Amendment; Gate No. 2 Remains Sealed

National Times Bureau :- The ongoing student protest at Panjab University intensified on Monday as demonstrators continued their sit-in against the proposed amendments to the student senate. Although the Centre has already withdrawn the controversial notification, students have declared that their protest will continue until the date for the senate elections is formally announced.

The situation on campus remained tense through the night, with reports of heated exchanges between protesters and security personnel. By early morning, authorities had completely sealed Gate No. 2 of the university, barring both students and media personnel from entering the premises. Several individuals were reportedly detained by the police, while others were dispersed from the protest site.

Heavy police deployment was observed at all major entry points to Chandigarh, including Manimajra, Mohali, Panchkula, and Khuda Lahora Road. Vehicles entering the city were subjected to strict checking, and additional barricades were set up to prevent large gatherings.

Senior police officials said that anyone attempting to breach barricades or enter the city without authorization would be taken into custody immediately. All police stations have been put on alert, with continuous surveillance being maintained from the control room.

The students, however, remain adamant about their demands, saying they are fighting for the integrity of the university’s democratic structure. “The withdrawal of the notification is only the first step. We will not move until the election date is announced,” one protester said.

As tensions persist, the university administration and local authorities are keeping a close watch to prevent further escalation.
