February 26, 2025 – Priyanka Chopra’s rise to fame began in 2000 when she won the Miss India title, followed by her victory as Miss World. However, her mother, Madhu Chopra, recently revealed that her homecoming after the pageant win was not as celebratory as expected.
Backlash in Bareilly
In a recent interview with Lehren TV, Madhu Chopra shared that their arrival in Bareilly was met with resistance. She recalled that local authorities did not support the grand reception that was planned for Priyanka.
“The state machinery said this is female exploitation and we will not accept this. Their rule was that a Miss World winner must return to her hometown for a formal reception, but in our case, we were not welcomed,” Madhu said.
‘We Were Very Upset’
Madhu further explained that the visit to Bareilly was initially approved by the Chief Minister’s office. However, at the last moment, officials claimed there were law and order concerns, preventing the event from happening.
“We were told that there were security issues and other reasons, but it was disappointing,” she added.
Priyanka’s Career and Future Projects
Despite the initial resistance, Priyanka Chopra went on to establish a successful career in films. She made her acting debut in the Tamil film Thamizhan (2002) before entering Bollywood with The Hero: Love Story of a Spy (2003).
Last year, Priyanka revisited the London venue where she was crowned Miss World while attending her husband Nick Jonas’ concert.
She is now rumored to be a part of SS Rajamouli’s next big project alongside Mahesh Babu. An official announcement is awaited. Meanwhile, Priyanka will next be seen in the Hollywood action-comedy Heads of State, co-starring Idris Elba and John Cena.
