Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Arrive in Kurukshetra Today for State-Level Commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th Martyrdom Day

Kurukshetra, November 24, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in Kurukshetra today to participate in the state-level ceremony marking the 350th martyrdom day of Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. The event is being organised by the Haryana government at Jyotisar, where the Prime Minister will pay homage to Guru Sahib. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, along with several ministers and dignitaries, will also be present.

During his visit, the Prime Minister will inaugurate the Mahabharata Experience Centre at Jyotisar and later take part in the grand Maha Aarti at the sacred Brahmasarovar as part of the International Gita Mahotsav.

Chief Minister Saini inspected the venue on Monday and reviewed preparations at the main stage, congregation area, security arrangements, parking zones and facilities for visitors. He also inspected exhibition stalls and other important sections, instructing officials to ensure that all arrangements are completed with precision. He emphasised coordinated work among departments so that attendees face no inconvenience.

The Chief Minister also visited Purushottam Bagh near Brahmasarovar to assess on-ground arrangements and directed officials to ensure strong security and smooth execution of all components of the event. He later reviewed international stalls set up for the Gita Mahotsav. Foreign participants and traders welcomed him warmly with a traditional ‘Namaste’.

The ceremony holds deep spiritual significance, honouring the unparalleled sacrifice of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji, who laid down his life in defence of religious freedom against Aurangzeb’s tyranny. His devoted followers—Bhai Dyal Das Ji, Bhai Mati Das Ji and Bhai Sati Das Ji—also made supreme sacrifices. Kurukshetra is especially sacred as eight Sikh Gurus visited this land, and around 28 historic gurdwaras in Haryana preserve their legacy. Since 1 November 2025, various events dedicated to Guru Sahib have been held across the state, along with four spiritual yatras from different corners of Haryana to spread his teachings.

Prime Minister Modi will also inaugurate the newly built Mahabharata-themed Experience Centre at Jyotisar. Developed under the Government of India’s ‘Swadesh Darshan’ scheme at a cost of around ₹200 crore, the centre brings to life the philosophy, history and science of the Mahabharata through modern technology. The complex also houses the grand Panchajanya memorial—an enormous 5 to 5.5-ton divine conch of Shri Krishna—standing nearly 4 to 5 metres tall as a symbol of dharma and truth.

Later in the evening, the Prime Minister will participate in the Maha Aarti at the sacred Brahmasarovar. The International Gita Mahotsav, a global celebration of the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita, draws lakhs of devotees, scholars, artists and spiritual practitioners from across India and abroad. The glowing lamps, chants of Vedic mantras and devotional ambience at Brahmasarovar during the Aarti will further elevate the spiritual grandeur of Kurukshetra and strengthen its global identity.
