Dehradun, June 20, 2025 — In an emotional and heartwarming moment, President Droupadi Murmu was moved to tears as visually impaired students at the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD) sang a birthday melody for her during her visit to Dehradun. The President, who turned 67 today, was in Uttarakhand for a three-day official tour.
The children performed the iconic song “Baar Baar Din Yeh Aaye”, filling the hall with their voices and sincerity. Overwhelmed by the heartfelt tribute, the President was seen wiping tears from her eyes, visibly touched by the gesture.
Later addressing the gathering, President Murmu said, “I could not control my emotions. They sang so beautifully and with so much affection.” She praised the students’ confidence and spirit, calling them true ambassadors of perseverance and talent.
During her visit, she inaugurated several facilities at NIEPVD, including Rashtrapati Niketan, a Presidential Retreat now open to the public, and a new souvenir shop and cafeteria. She emphasized the importance of inclusive development and the need to empower persons with disabilities with access to education, technology, and equal opportunities.
Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami also joined the President at the institute and extended their birthday wishes. The Chief Minister lauded President Murmu’s life journey and commitment to marginalized communities, especially the differently-abled.
President Murmu’s interaction with the students marked the emotional high point of her Uttarakhand tour, underlining her compassion and the government’s broader mission for inclusive growth.
