New Delhi, April 5, 2025 — President Droupadi Murmu extended warm greetings to citizens on the eve of Ram Navami, calling the festival a time to embrace the values of truth, dharma, and selfless service inspired by Lord Ram’s life.
“On the auspicious occasion of Ram Navami, I extend my heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all fellow citizens,” she said in a message on Saturday. Referring to Bhagwan Shri Ram as Maryada Purushottam, the President said his epic journey teaches the importance of truth, sacrifice, and commitment to one’s word.
She urged everyone to draw inspiration from Ram’s ideals and work together for the welfare of humanity.
Ram Navami marks the conclusion of the nine-day Chaitra Navratri, a spring festival devoted to Goddess Durga and her nine avatars. While there are four Navratris observed across the year, Chaitra and Shardiya Navratri are most widely celebrated. The ninth day, known as Ram Navami, celebrates the birth of Lord Ram.
Across India, the festival is marked by prayers, rituals, and celebrations dedicated to both the goddess Shakti and Lord Ram. Temples are decked in festive decorations, and thousands gather for processions and spiritual events.
Adding to the fervor, Ram Janmabhoomi Tirtha Kshetra General Secretary Champat Rai announced a series of ceremonies in Ayodhya. On April 6, Ram Lalla’s Abhishek will take place in the morning, followed by Shringar, or ceremonial adornment. At noon, marking the exact birth time of Lord Ram, an aarti will be performed and chappan bhog—a lavish offering of 56 food items—will be presented.
In a special highlight, the Surya Tilak—a symbolic moment when a ray of sunlight touches the idol’s forehead—will be performed for four minutes. This rare celestial event will be broadcast live across the globe by Doordarshan.
Millions across the country are expected to join the celebrations in person or virtually, as the nation pays tribute to one of its most revered figures.
