President Droupadi Murmu Urges Students to Illuminate Society and Nation with Knowledge

Chandigarh, March 10 – More than half of the students receiving Ph.D. degrees and other medals at Guru Jambheshwar University’s 6th convocation ceremony were female, a testament to the progress of Haryana and the entire nation. Today, girls are excelling in education as well as various other fields. Notably, over 75% of gold medalists were female, highlighting their growing success in diverse sectors, including agriculture and allied sciences.

India’s President, Droupadi Murmu, addressed the students as the chief guest at the university’s convocation ceremony held in Hisar on Monday. She emphasized that students must use their knowledge to enlighten society and the nation.

Before the ceremony, Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya welcomed President Murmu with a bouquet at Maharaja Agrasen Airport. Upon reaching the university, she planted a sapling, symbolizing her commitment to environmental conservation. The ceremony began with a grand academic procession, followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp before Goddess Sharada.

During the event, Indresh Kumar was conferred an honorary degree for his significant contributions to environmental and social unity.

In her speech, President Murmu praised the increasing role of women in India’s development and society. She recalled Guru Jambheshwar’s teachings, which emphasized scientific thinking, a disciplined lifestyle, and environmental conservation. She stressed that protecting nature and showing compassion toward all living beings are moral duties of humanity.

She also lauded the university’s achievements over the past 30 years in research, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The institution’s efforts in incubation, start-ups, and patent filings are fostering a spirit of creativity among students. She noted that such initiatives are crucial in making India a global knowledge superpower.

President Murmu urged students to spread awareness about the importance of education in their communities. She highlighted the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to promote independent thinking and creativity while offering better employment opportunities.

Addressing the graduates, she said, “Today marks the beginning of a new journey for you. This path will bring both challenges and opportunities. By continuously learning and improving your skills, you can transform challenges into opportunities.” She encouraged students to become job providers rather than job seekers.

Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya congratulated the medalists and award winners. He emphasized that students must stay updated with emerging technologies and trends to remain relevant in a rapidly evolving world. He added that education is not just about acquiring knowledge and skills but also about instilling values like morality, compassion, and tolerance.

Guru Jambheshwar University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Narsi Ram Bishnoi, extended a warm welcome to President Murmu, Governor Dattatreya, and Cabinet Minister Ranbir Gangwa at the ceremony.
