Bathinda, March 11, 2025 – President Droupadi Murmu attended the convocation ceremony of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda on Tuesday, where she emphasized the importance of combining medical expertise with human values like compassion and empathy.
AIIMS: A Symbol of Excellence and Affordability
President Murmu highlighted that for citizens, AIIMS represents top-quality yet affordable healthcare, while for students, it stands for advanced education and research opportunities. “To provide excellent tertiary healthcare at affordable costs and promote research and development, many AIIMS have been established across the country,” she said.
Research and Innovation Focus
She stressed that prestigious institutes like AIIMS must lead the way in medical research and innovation. Praising AIIMS Bathinda’s 750-bed capacity and its wide range of specialty and super-specialty services, she urged the institute to become a regional hub of medical excellence. “Focus your research on solving both global and local health issues,” she advised.
Moral Responsibility of Doctors
President Murmu reminded the graduating doctors of their moral responsibility. “A doctor is expected to have not just professional competence but also human values like compassion, kindness, and sympathy,” she said. She advised them to stay emotionally resilient during challenging times and to maintain a healthy lifestyle through yoga and exercise to stay mentally and physically fit.

President Murmu will next attend the convocation ceremony at Panjab University in Chandigarh on March 12 as part of her multi-state visit to Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh.
