Premier Danielle Smith Heads to Mexico to Boost Alberta’s Trade and Investment Ties

Edmonton (Rajeev Sharma): On Remembrance Day, Premier Danielle Smith released a statement recognizing the courage and sacrifices of Canadians who have served in times of war, conflict, and peace.

“On Nov. 11, Canadians come together to honour the immense sacrifices of the brave men and women who have served our country,” Premier Smith said. “It is a solemn day of reflection, gratitude, and remembrance.”

The Premier highlighted significant historical milestones this year, including 80 years since the end of the Second World War, when Canadian forces played a key role in liberating the Netherlands from Nazi occupation. She noted that the bravery and compassion of Canadian soldiers during the war forged enduring international bonds.

Premier Smith also reflected on other notable anniversaries: 110 years since John McCrae wrote In Flanders Fields, 115 years since the founding of the Royal Canadian Navy, and 170 years since the creation of the Canadian Army. “Each anniversary reminds us of the generations of Canadians who have stood ready to defend freedom at home and abroad,” she said.

In her statement, the Premier called on all Albertans to observe a moment of silence in memory of those who made the ultimate sacrifice and for those who continue to serve. She also acknowledged the families of veterans, praising their resilience and strength.

“Let us remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice and those who continue to bear the heavy burdens of service. We also honour their families, whose strength and resilience embody the very best of our country,” Premier Smith said.

She concluded with the traditional phrase: “Lest we forget.”
