National Times Bureau :- The water level in Pong Dam has crossed the danger mark, forcing authorities to release excess water downstream. Officials confirmed that within the last 24 hours, the dam’s water level has risen by three feet. In response, the dam administration has increased the discharge by 6,000 cusecs, with advance notice that the outflow may go up to 75,000 cusecs if required.

The information was shared through an official letter by the Additional Superintending Engineer of BBMB’s Water Regulation Cell, Talwara. He stated that due to heavy rainfall in Himachal Pradesh, water inflow into Pong Dam continues to rise, making it necessary to gradually release excess water.
Meanwhile, the water level in Bhakra Dam is also rising steadily and currently stands at 1,665 feet—about 15 feet below the danger level. Similarly, Ranjit Sagar Dam has reached 1,715 feet, just 15 feet short of its 1,730-feet danger mark.
Officials have warned that if heavy rainfall continues in Himachal Pradesh in the coming days, Punjab may face more challenges due to the increased water release from the dams.
