Chandigarh (National Times): The political landscape in Punjab is heating up, with Leader of the Opposition Partap Bajwa claiming that 32 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs are in touch with him, expressing their desire to switch to the Congress.
Bajwa took a swipe at the Bhagwant Mann-led government, accusing it of failing to fulfill its pre-election promise of providing a Rs 1,000 monthly honorarium, which has left many legislators discontent.
Adding to the political drama, Congress MLA Pargat Singh alleged that AAP is considering replacing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. He hinted that Mann’s leadership is under scrutiny following AAP’s significant loss in the Delhi Assembly elections.
Amid rising tensions, AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has called for a crucial meeting with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and party MLAs at Kapurthala House in Delhi. While the BJP claims the meeting is a step towards Mann’s removal, AAP insists it is meant for analyzing the party’s shortcomings and planning future strategies.
The party’s poor performance in the Delhi elections, where BJP won 48 seats and AAP secured only 22, has raised concerns about its stability.
With Punjab’s Assembly session approaching, all eyes are on AAP’s next move and whether Bajwa’s claims of defections will materialize.
