PM Modi Urges Mission-Mode Reforms to Drive Viksit Bharat Vision Ahead of Union Budget

New Delhi, December 30, 2025: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for mission-mode reforms across multiple sectors to sustain long-term economic growth and realise the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Interacting with a group of eminent economists and experts at NITI Aayog ahead of the Union Budget 2026–27, the Prime Minister underlined the need for world-class capabilities and deeper global integration. The discussion was held on the theme ‘Aatmanirbharta and Structural Transformation: Agenda for Viksit Bharat’.

Modi stressed that India’s policy-making and budgeting processes must remain firmly aligned with the long-term national vision for 2047. He also emphasised the importance of ensuring that India continues to emerge as a key hub for the global workforce and international markets.

Describing Viksit Bharat as a collective national aspiration, the Prime Minister noted that the goal of a developed India by 2047 has moved beyond government policy to become a people-driven ambition.

During the interaction, participating economists shared insights on improving productivity and competitiveness across both manufacturing and services sectors. They highlighted that the series of cross-sectoral reforms undertaken in 2025, along with their further consolidation in the coming year, would strengthen India’s economic foundations and unlock new growth opportunities.

The discussions focused on accelerating structural transformation through higher household savings, sustained infrastructure expansion and the adoption of advanced technologies. The role of artificial intelligence in enhancing cross-sector productivity and the continued expansion of India’s Digital Public Infrastructure were also examined.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Principal Secretaries to the Prime Minister P K Mishra and Shaktikanta Das, NITI Aayog Vice Chairman Suman Bery, Chief Economic Adviser V Anantha Nageswaran, NITI Aayog CEO B V R Subrahmanyam and other senior officials attended the meeting.

Several noted economists and experts, including former Chief Economic Adviser Shankar Acharya, Ashok K Bhattacharya, N R Bhanumurthy, former RBI MPC member Ashima Goyal, Dharmakirti Joshi, Umakant Dash, Pinaki Chakraborty, Indranil Sen Gupta, Samiran Chakraborty, Abhiman Das, Rahul Bajoria, Monika Halan and Siddhartha Sanyal, also took part in the discussion.
