PM Modi Unveils 77-Foot Bronze Statue of Lord Ram in Goa, Calls for Unity and Cultural Confidence

Partagali (Goa): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday dedicated a towering 77-foot bronze statue of Lord Ram to the nation during an event marking 550 years of the Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt, one of India’s oldest monastic centres. The ceremony, held in South Goa’s Partagali, drew large crowds and included the launch of a Ramayana-themed park.

Speaking at the event, the Prime Minister said that India’s long-term progress depends on collective resolve and social cohesion. “For a country to move decisively toward a developed future, its people must stand together,” he told the gathering, adding that the nation is witnessing a powerful revival of cultural consciousness.

Modi said this renewed cultural confidence can be seen in various national projects, including the reconstruction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the transformation of the Kashi Vishwanath corridor, and the expansion of Ujjain’s Mahakal complex. These efforts, he noted, reflect a wider return to India’s spiritual and civilisational roots.

Goa’s Enduring Cultural Spirit Praised

The Prime Minister also praised Goa for preserving its traditions despite periods of social and political upheaval. He recalled moments when the state’s linguistic and cultural identity faced strain, yet local communities held on to their heritage. “Goa’s culture has shown the ability to adapt without losing its essence,” he said.

Modi commended the Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt for its centuries-long influence, describing it as a stabilising force through periods of historical change. “This institution has withstood the tests of many eras,” he said, adding that its contribution to spiritual life continues to shape generations of devotees.

India’s Tallest Statue of Lord Ram

The newly installed Lord Ram statue has been crafted by renowned sculptor Ram Sutar, known for designing Gujarat’s Statue of Unity. Goa PWD Minister Digambar Kamat said the project has resulted in the tallest statue of Lord Ram anywhere in the world.

Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister visited the mutt’s temple complex and spent time with monks and spiritual leaders. Describing the experience as deeply enriching, he said the new facilities would serve as enduring places for reflection, devotion, and learning.

The Shree Samsthan Gokarn Jeevottam Mutt, which holds a prominent place within the Saraswat community, has long been recognised for its role in nurturing cultural and religious traditions across the Konkan region.
