New Delhi (National Times): Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to embark today on a significant three-nation visit to the Republic of Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia, aimed at deepening diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships, while also reinforcing India’s global stance against terrorism.
In a statement ahead of his departure, PM Modi outlined the key objectives of the visit, which will span from June 15 to June 18. The trip will begin with a two-day official visit to Cyprus at the invitation of President Nikos Christodoulides.
“Cyprus is a close friend and an important partner in the Mediterranean region and the European Union. The visit provides an opportunity to build upon the historical bonds and expand our ties in the areas of trade, investment, security, and technology,” the Prime Minister stated. He also emphasized the importance of strengthening people-to-people connections between the two countries.
Following his engagements in Cyprus, Prime Minister Modi will travel to Kananaskis, Canada, to participate in the G7 Summit on June 17 at the invitation of Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. India has been invited as a key partner country, reflecting its growing global influence and voice for the Global South.
“The Summit will provide space for exchange of views on pressing global issues and the priorities of the Global South,” PM Modi noted, adding that he looks forward to engaging with world leaders on issues ranging from climate change to inclusive development and economic stability.
The final leg of the tour will take Modi to the Republic of Croatia on June 18, where he is scheduled to hold talks with President Zoran Milanović and Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. The visit will mark the first-ever by an Indian Prime Minister to Croatia.
“Both our countries enjoy centuries-old close cultural links,” Modi said, highlighting the potential for enhanced cooperation in fields such as science and technology, education, tourism, and cultural exchange.
Beyond bilateral engagements, PM Modi said the visit offers a platform to express gratitude to partner nations for their support in India’s fight against cross-border terrorism. “This three-nation tour is also an opportunity to galvanize global understanding on tackling terrorism in all its forms and manifestations,” he asserted.
The visit comes at a time of heightened international focus on security, global trade realignments, and geopolitical shifts, especially in Europe and West Asia. Modi’s presence at the G7 Summit is expected to further reinforce India’s position as a key player in shaping the global agenda.
The three-nation trip is being closely watched by global observers as India continues to balance its strategic autonomy with proactive global engagement.
