PM Modi Departs on Five-Nation Tour to Strengthen Global South Ties and Multilateral Cooperation

New Delhi (National Times): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has embarked on a significant five-nation diplomatic tour from July 2 to July 9, covering Ghana, Trinidad & Tobago, Argentina, Brazil, and Namibia. The visit underscores India’s commitment to deepening ties across the Global South and enhancing cooperation in multilateral forums like BRICS, the African Union, ECOWAS, and CARICOM.

In a departure statement, PM Modi said, “I am confident that my visits to the five countries will reinforce our bonds of friendship across the Global South, strengthen our partnerships on both sides of the Atlantic, and deepen engagements in multilateral platforms.”

Ghana (July 2–3)

Modi’s tour begins in Accra, where he will meet President John Dramani Mahama. The focus will be on strengthening bilateral ties in energy, health, investment, security, and development cooperation. Highlighting Ghana’s role in the African Union and ECOWAS, Modi said he looks forward to addressing Ghana’s Parliament.

Trinidad & Tobago (July 3–4)

Next, Modi will travel to Port of Spain, reinforcing India’s cultural and ancestral ties with the Caribbean nation. He will meet President Christine Carla Kangaloo and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, emphasizing a renewed focus on people-to-people and trade relations. The visit coincides with the 180th anniversary of Indian arrival in Trinidad & Tobago.

Argentina (July 4–5)

Marking the first bilateral visit by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years, PM Modi will meet President Javier Milei in Buenos Aires. Discussions will center around agriculture, critical minerals, energy, technology, and G20 cooperation.

Brazil – BRICS Summit (July 6–7)

PM Modi will participate in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, reaffirming India’s commitment to a just and democratic multipolar world order. He will also hold bilateral talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Brasilia during a state visit, the first by an Indian Prime Minister in nearly six decades.

Namibia (July 8–9)

The final stop will be Namibia, where Modi will meet President Dr. Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah. He is also scheduled to address a joint session of the Namibian Parliament, aiming to chart a new roadmap for cooperation in development, trade, and historical solidarity.

Strengthening South-South Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi emphasized that the tour reflects India’s vision of unity and progress for emerging economies.

“This is about building one global family where nations of the Global South rise together—powered by cooperation, shared values, and mutual respect.”

The visit is expected to expand India’s strategic footprint across Africa and Latin America while reaffirming its role as a trusted partner in the Global South.
