Tokyo (Rajeev Sharma): Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Tokyo on Friday, beginning a two-day official visit during which he will meet Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba for wide-ranging talks on bilateral, regional, and global issues.

The Ministry of External Affairs announced Modi’s arrival, stating that the discussions scheduled later today would focus on advancing the India–Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership, a relationship that has expanded significantly over the past eleven years.

Ahead of his departure from New Delhi, Modi emphasized that the visit would provide an important opportunity to strengthen cultural bonds between the two nations and open new avenues of cooperation. He said the leaders would work to add “new wings” to economic and investment ties and step up collaboration in advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and other emerging fields.

Modi will remain in Japan until August 30 before traveling to Tianjin, China, to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit on August 31 and September 1.

Expressing confidence about the outcomes of his engagements, the Prime Minister remarked that the back-to-back visits would not only further India’s diplomatic priorities but also contribute to promoting peace, security, and sustainable growth across the region.
