PM Mark Carney Condemns Russia's Attack on Sumy, Reaffirms Canada’s Support for Ukraine

Ottawa (Rajeev Sharma): Canada Prime Minister Mark Carney issued a strong statement condemning Russia’s latest assault on civilians in the Ukrainian city of Sumy, calling it a continuation of an “unjustified war of aggression.” His comments come as the Russia-Ukraine conflict escalates, with mounting civilian casualties and international pressure for a ceasefire.

“Today, Russia chose once again to prolong its unjustified war of aggression on Ukraine by attacking innocent civilians in Sumy,” Carney said in a statement released Saturday. “Our thoughts are with the families of those killed and wounded in this brutal attack.”

The Prime Minister underscored Ukraine’s commitment to peace, urging Russia to “agree to an immediate ceasefire.” Carney praised Ukraine’s resilience and reiterated Canada’s unwavering support for the nation amid ongoing hostilities.

“Canada stands with Ukraine in its fight for freedom, peace, and security — today, tomorrow, and always,” he affirmed.

The renewed violence in Sumy has sparked outrage among global leaders, with Canada joining the chorus demanding accountability and an end to the war. Carney’s statement signals continued diplomatic backing and humanitarian aid to Ukraine, as Ottawa explores further sanctions and international coordination to pressure Moscow.

Canada has been a steadfast ally of Ukraine since the war began in 2022, providing military assistance, financial aid, and welcoming thousands of Ukrainian refugees. As the situation in Ukraine continues to deteriorate, Canada’s message remains clear: peace must prevail, and the cost of aggression will not be ignored.
