Parliament Session Begins Amid Heated Political Showdown

New Delhi, March 9, 2025: With the Budget Session of Parliament resuming tomorrow, the stage is set for heated debates as the government and the Opposition prepare for a showdown over crucial issues. From alleged electoral roll manipulation to the ongoing crisis in Manipur and trade tensions with the US, the session is expected to witness intense political battles.

The government’s top priorities include securing approval for the Manipur budget, passing the Waqf Amendment Bill, and ensuring the smooth completion of the budgetary process. Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to seek parliamentary approval for the proclamation of President’s Rule in Manipur, while Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the state’s budget. Manipur has been under President’s Rule since February 13 following Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s resignation.

Meanwhile, the Opposition is gearing up to corner the government on multiple fronts. The Trinamool Congress has been vocal about alleged irregularities in voter ID numbers, prompting the Election Commission to promise corrective action within three months. Opposition leaders, including those from Congress, DMK, and Shiv Sena (UBT), plan to raise the issue forcefully in both Houses.

The Waqf Amendment Bill is another point of contention. The government insists the bill will resolve long-standing issues within the Muslim community, but the Opposition is united in its resistance. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh has called for extensive consultations among INDIA bloc parties to oppose the bill.

Beyond domestic issues, the Opposition also plans to challenge the government on international trade, particularly US President Donald Trump’s recent comments on tariffs. Congress has urged a bipartisan approach to counter Trump’s threats of reciprocal trade measures against India.

With tensions running high and a packed legislative agenda, the Budget Session is expected to be politically charged. The session, which started on January 31, resumes tomorrow and will continue until April 4. As Parliament reconvenes, all eyes will be on how the government and the Opposition navigate the turbulent debates ahead.
