New Delhi (National Times): The fifth day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament began on a solemn note as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla led the House in paying heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers of the 1999 Kargil War, ahead of the 26th anniversary of India’s victory in the conflict.
Opening the proceedings, Speaker Birla recalled the valour and supreme sacrifice of the soldiers who laid down their lives while defending the nation during the Kargil conflict. He noted that Kargil Vijay Diwas, commemorated annually on July 26, is a reminder of the indomitable spirit and unwavering dedication of the Indian Armed Forces.
Members across party lines stood in silent tribute, observing a moment of reflection to honour the Kargil martyrs who made the ultimate sacrifice for the country.
The tribute set a patriotic and respectful tone in the Lok Sabha as the day’s proceedings commenced, reinforcing Parliament’s collective gratitude towards the Armed Forces.
