Panjab University Hostel Fraud: Rs.60 Lakh Transferred to Former Employee’s Account

National Times Bureau :- A Rs.60 lakh embezzlement case has surfaced at the Dr. Sushil Nayar Working Women Hostel of Panjab University (PU), involving alleged misappropriation of students’ hostel fees. The university administration has filed an FIR, and police have begun an investigation into the matter. Sources confirmed that the inquiry committee formed earlier has already submitted its report.

The scam allegedly took place during the tenure of former hostel warden Prof. Avneet Kaur. A former daily-wage female employee, who worked at the hostel, is accused of transferring nearly Rs.60 lakh into her personal bank account. She was suspended following the discovery.

The matter had been under investigation for several months, with delays over who should formally lodge the FIR. PU authorities insisted that the complaint should be signed by former warden Prof. Amritpal Kaur, while she maintained that the issue fell under the jurisdiction of the university administration. Prof. Amritpal Kaur reportedly handed over certain documents to the administration but later approached the SC Commission when asked to file the FIR herself.

The case has now been handed over to a judicial officer for further inquiry, while police are examining evidence to determine the chain of responsibility and recover the misappropriated funds.
