Pakistan’s Ceasefire Violation Sparks Blackouts Across Punjab, Bathinda on Red Alert

National Times Bureau, May 9, 2025: Tensions flared Saturday night as Pakistan violated the ceasefire once again, prompting blackouts and heightened security in Punjab’s border regions. Following cross-border firing in Jammu & Kashmir, authorities enforced blackouts in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Bathinda, and other areas to prevent visibility during potential attacks.

Bathinda saw a power shutdown around 9:30 PM, with the administration placing the city on red alert. Officials stated the move was aimed at protecting civilians in case of aerial strikes. Surveillance and patrols along the border were immediately intensified.

Kapurthala and Nangal also implemented blackouts as precautionary steps. The Kapurthala administration ordered exterior lights, signboards, and CCTV systems to be turned off. In Nangal, blackouts were ordered from 9:30 PM to 5:30 AM. Punjab Minister Harjot Singh Bains assured residents that safety efforts were ongoing and urged calm.

Authorities appealed to citizens to avoid rumors, stay indoors, and follow official instructions. A strong response from the Indian side is expected.
