New Delhi, May 8, 2025: The Ministry of Defence hereby confirms that on the night of 07–08 May 2025, Pakistan made a deliberate attempt to target multiple Indian military installations using drones and missiles across Northern and Western India.
Indian military positions in Awantipura, Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Adampur, Bhatinda, Chandigarh, Phalodi, Uttarlai, and Bhuj were among those engaged by Pakistani forces. However, the attempted strikes were effectively intercepted and neutralized by India’s Integrated Counter UAS Grid and Air Defence systems.
In a proportionate and focused response, the Indian Armed Forces carried out targeted strikes on air defence radars and installations inside Pakistan. It has been reliably confirmed that an air defence system in Lahore has been neutralized, marking a significant setback to Pakistan’s military readiness.
The Ministry reiterates that India’s actions were measured and non-escalatory, confined to the same operational domain and intensity as the provocations received. While India remains committed to restraint, any attack on Indian military assets will receive an appropriate and firm response.
Separately, Pakistan has intensified unprovoked shelling across the Line of Control, using heavy artillery and mortars in areas including Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri, Poonch, Mendhar, and Rajouri, resulting in the loss of 16 civilian lives, including three women and five children. Indian forces responded to halt the fire and safeguard civilian lives.
The Ministry of Defence affirms its continued commitment to national security and to ensuring stability in the region, while urging Pakistan to respect established norms and avoid further escalation.
