The wheat procurement process in Mohali district’s grain markets is progressing smoothly with 52,529 metric tons of wheat already purchased. Deputy Commissioner Kom Mittal confirmed the information, adding that ₹114.52 crore has already been transferred directly into farmers’ accounts.
Mittal emphasized that under Punjab Government directives, payments are being made within the stipulated 48-hour window. The district administration is fully committed to purchasing every grain of wheat brought by farmers. To protect wheat from getting wet during inclement weather, proper arrangements have been made at procurement centers by market committees, food and civil supplies departments, commission agents, and farmers, including the installation of tarpaulins. Thankfully, no losses have been reported due to rainfall in the mandis so far.
Providing agency-wise procurement data, the Deputy Commissioner stated: PUNGRAIN has procured 17,663 MT, MARKFED 12,029 MT, PUNSUP 12,180 MT, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation 6,464 MT, FCI 4,193 MT, and private traders have purchased 58 MT.
Dr. Navreet, the District Food and Supply Controller, said that government agencies are lifting the procured wheat within 72 hours, as mandated. The Food Corporation of India (FCI) and other procurement agencies are transporting wheat via rail and road to other states. About 67.1% of the procured wheat has already been lifted, and the remaining stock is expected to be cleared in the coming days.
He added that under the guidance of the government and the Deputy Commissioner, efficient services will continue till the end of the procurement season. Farmers across all mandis in the district will be ensured a hassle-free experience.
