Over 15,000 Arrested in 93 Days: Punjab Police Tightens Grip on Drug Smugglers

Chandigarh, June 2, 2025 — Continuing its relentless crackdown on drug trafficking under the “Yudh Nashian Virudh” campaign, the Punjab Police on Monday arrested 98 drug smugglers across the state. The coordinated operation led to the recovery of 1.5 kilograms of heroin, 2,508 intoxicant pills, and ₹3,900 in drug money.

With these arrests, the total number of drug smugglers apprehended since the campaign’s launch 93 days ago has reached 15,117.

The state-wide operation was conducted across all 28 police districts under the direction of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav. Over 200 police teams comprising more than 1,400 personnel, supervised by 93 gazetted officers, carried out raids at 510 locations, resulting in the registration of 77 FIRs.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has instructed law enforcement agencies to work towards making the state drug-free. A five-member Cabinet Sub-Committee led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema is also monitoring the campaign’s progress.

Special DGP Law and Order Arpit Shukla said the police teams also checked 523 suspicious individuals during Monday’s operation. In line with the government’s three-pronged strategy of Enforcement, De-addiction, and Prevention (EDP), police also facilitated de-addiction for 60 individuals, guiding them towards rehabilitation and treatment.

The Punjab Police continues to intensify its efforts to dismantle drug networks and promote recovery and social reintegration across the state.
