Opposition Against Women’s Rights; Mothers and Sisters Will Not Let Them Enter the House Next Time: Ranbir Gangwa

Chandigarh (Balwinder Singh): Haryana’s Minister for Public Works and Public Health Engineering, Ranbir Gangwa, launched a sharp attack on the Congress and other opposition parties during the ongoing Assembly session. Supporting the censure motion brought by Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini against the opposition’s conduct, Gangwa stated that the opposition has consistently worked against the interests of women, particularly regarding the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam (Women’s Reservation Bill). He asserted that the state’s female population—representing half of the citizenry—would respond by keeping the opposition out of the Assembly in the next elections.

Speaking in Chandigarh on April 27, 2026, Minister Gangwa emphasized that the issue is not merely about 33 per cent reservation but about whether Indian democracy will ensure a dignified and constitutional place for women at the decision-making table. Invoking Indian cultural values where women are revered, he criticized the opposition for staying away from the House during such a vital discussion, calling their absence a sign of their disregard for women’s political rights.

The Minister accused the opposition of “double standards,” claiming that while they publicly supported the bill in Parliament, they sought to obstruct it during the voting process. He noted that the Modi government intends to implement political reservation for women by the 2029 elections, a move he claims the opposition has tried to derail through “baseless arguments and misinformation.”

Gangwa further remarked that the opposition has a history of opposing transformative national milestones, including the abrogation of Article 370 and the construction of the Ram Temple. He concluded by stating that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, women would continue to gain strength and eventually secure their rightful place in the nation’s power structure, despite the hurdles created by political rivals.
