On Bandi Chhor Divas, Giani Raghbir Singh urges govt to release Bandi Singhs

National Times Bureau :- On the auspicious occasion of Bandi Chhor Divas, Head Granthi of Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar, Giani Raghbir Singh, extended warm greetings to the Sikh community across India and abroad. He also made a strong appeal to the government to release Sikh prisoners (Bandi Singhs) who have completed their sentences but remain behind bars.

Giani Raghbir Singh highlighted that Bandi Chhor Divas marks the day when Sri Guru Hargobind Sahib Ji secured the release of 52 imprisoned kings from the Gwalior Fort. To celebrate this divine act of freedom, devotees light lamps of pure ghee, and the entire city of Amritsar glows with devotion and joy. “Keeping that spirit alive, the Sikh community celebrates this sacred day as Bandi Chhor Divas,” he said.

Expressing concern over the indifference shown towards Sikhs in the world’s largest democracy, Giani Raghbir Singh stated that the current governments should follow the path shown by the Gurus and grant freedom to the Bandi Singhs.

He further said, “Many of these prisoners have already completed their terms. The government should take a compassionate step and release them so they can spend the rest of their lives peacefully with their families and children.”
