Vancouver (Rajeev Sharma): The Consulate General of India in Vancouver has clarified that Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) cardholders can travel to and from India while their passport details are being updated, confirming that no travel restrictions apply solely because an update application is still being processed.
The clarification is intended to address concerns among OCI cardholders who may need to travel internationally after receiving a new passport but before completing the corresponding update to their OCI records.
The consulate has advised OCI cardholders to update their passport information linked to their OCI card, including their electronic OCI registration (e-OCI), within three months of the issuance of a new passport.
The guidance allows travellers to continue making their journeys during the processing period while reminding them to complete the required passport-detail updates within the specified timeframe.
OCI cardholders seeking further clarification or assistance can contact the Consulate General of India in Vancouver by email at oci.vancouver@mea.gov.in.
The announcement provides an important reminder for members of the Indian diaspora to keep their passport and OCI information up to date while planning travel between India and other countries.
