Led by Aawaz Power of Men Welfare Society

The protest was spearheaded by President Anmol Dang, Vice President Gurpreet Inder Singh, Cashier Gaurav Shahi, and team members Sonu Yadav, Gurjant Singh, among others. Their presence and statements strengthened the gathering.

“Families Spend Lakhs, Yet Sons Are Abandoned”

Addressing the crowd, President Anmol Dang said that families spend lakhs of rupees on marriages with hopes for a secure future, but many grooms are soon abandoned or trapped in false cases once visa or financial goals are fulfilled. He added that such betrayal drives many men into depression, distress, and even suicide.

Call for Equal Justice

Vice President Gurpreet Inder Singh emphasised that justice must be fair to all. He stated that if a bride or her family commits fraud, they should face strict punishment, and similarly, if the groom or his family deceives the bride or fails to take her abroad, they too must be held accountable. According to him, equal justice is the only way to restore people’s trust in marriage.

Questioning Government Schemes

Referring to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s recent announcement of a ₹1,100 monthly aid for women starting with the 2026 budget, the society’s leaders questioned why there are no similar schemes for men who have been abandoned by their wives or falsely implicated. Gurpreet Inder Singh said that if the government can support women, it should also extend assistance to victimised men.

Demand for Stronger Laws

The leaders pointed out that Punjab Women Commission Chairperson Raj Lali Gill has repeatedly highlighted this issue, yet no concrete law has been passed to address it. They also shared that their own efforts to meet the commission were unsuccessful as they were not given adequate time.

Voices of Support

Canadian social media figure Gurparkash Singh Smagh, popularly known as ‘Pendu Canadian’, attended the event as a guest speaker and shared his concerns about the growing crisis of fraudulent overseas marriages.

Protesters Urge Immediate Action

Participants at the protest called on the government to introduce strict legislation, create swift action mechanisms, and ensure gender-neutral justice to tackle these fraudulent practices. They praised the leaders of the society for speaking openly about the hardships faced by affected men.

Pledge to Continue the Fight

Aawaz Power of Men Welfare Society reiterated its commitment to represent the victims and vowed to keep up the pressure on the government until strong laws are enacted and justice is served.
