Gurpreet Singh :- Gurpreet Singh :- A Nihang Singh was killed and three others sustained bullet injuries in a firing incident that reportedly stemmed from a dispute over passage of vehicles near Simbal Chowk on the Batala-Gurdaspur road on Thursday.
According to preliminary information, an argument broke out between two groups after a disagreement over allowing a vehicle to pass. What began as a verbal altercation soon escalated into a violent confrontation.
Sources said tensions flared rapidly, following which members of both groups allegedly opened fire at each other using their licensed pistols. The exchange of gunfire created panic in the area, with local residents and passersby rushing to safety.
The Nihang Singh suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. Meanwhile, three youths belonging to the other group were injured in the firing and were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Hospital sources said one of the injured was reported to be in critical condition, while the other two were stated to be stable. The identities of those involved had not been officially disclosed till the filing of this report.
Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and launched an investigation. Officials said evidence was being collected from the scene and statements of eyewitnesses were being recorded to ascertain the sequence of events.
Further legal proceedings are underway, and police are examining all aspects of the case to determine responsibility for the firing.
