Chandigarh, September 28: Haryana Development and Panchayat Minister Krishna Lal Panwar said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, historic decisions have been taken to reduce GST rates. The move is expected to benefit the country’s poor and middle-class citizens the most. While everyday goods have become more affordable, prices of small appliances and vehicles have also decreased. People who had booked vehicles earlier are now receiving them at lower prices. Many have expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for this initiative.
Minister Panwar was addressing a press conference in Panipat on Sunday. He also interacted with traders regarding the new GST rates.
Speaking to reporters, he said that the Central Government has implemented the new GST rates, and consumers are beginning to benefit from reduced prices. The revised system simplifies GST slabs, bringing some items to a 0% category, making them fully tax-exempt. Additionally, two main GST slabs—5% and 18%—have been retained, while the earlier 12% and 28% slabs have been completely eliminated.
He added that several essential goods and services have been fully exempted from GST. These include milk, Indian breads such as roti and paratha, personal life and health insurance policies, basic stationery, notebooks, maps, charts, oxygen, and lifesaving medicines. Consumers will no longer pay any tax on these items.
Other products such as soap, shampoo, toothpaste, common clothing, small household electronics, tractors, and tractor tires and parts now fall under the 5% GST slab. Higher-value items like air conditioners, televisions, LEDs, monitors, projectors, washing machines, three-wheelers, motorcycles, petrol/CNG cars up to 1200cc, and diesel cars up to 1500cc have been placed under the 18% GST slab.
