Chandigarh (National Times): The Punjab Police is reportedly preparing to register a fresh case against senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former cabinet minister Bikram Singh Majithia. The development comes after a complaint was filed by the state Vigilance Bureau, which had visited Majithia’s residence earlier this week as part of an ongoing investigation.
According to sources, the Vigilance Bureau team has accused Majithia of threatening officials during the raid, provoking his supporters to attack the team, and obstructing a lawful search of his premises. The team was reportedly acting on credible intelligence that suggested the presence of documents at Majithia’s home allegedly linked to a drug money trail.
In the complaint, the officers have also alleged that Majithia engaged in a physical altercation and actively conspired to destroy potential evidence during the operation. The confrontation, which drew heavy public attention and sparked political uproar, has led to increased police activity around Majithia’s properties and renewed focus on his pending legal cases.
Sources claim that supporters of the Akali Dal leader physically blocked the vigilance officials from conducting the search, leading to a volatile standoff. The Vigilance Bureau is now pressing for charges that may include criminal intimidation, obstruction of government work, destruction of evidence, and incitement to violence.
Majithia is already under scrutiny in connection with a disproportionate assets case and is on bail in a 2021 drug-trafficking case. He has strongly denied all allegations and accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-led Punjab government of political vendetta.
A formal decision on registering the new case is expected shortly, pending legal review and consultations at the state level.
