Nepal Returns to Order After Protests; Army Tightens Security Nationwide

Kathmandu (Rajeev Sharma): A day after violent demonstrations forced Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli to step down, Nepal witnessed a relative return to calm on Wednesday as the army assumed command of security arrangements across the country.

Armed personnel were seen patrolling major intersections and sensitive spots in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur from the early hours of the morning. The military officially took charge late Tuesday night, following widespread unrest and damage to public property during the anti-government agitation.

According to officials, curbs have been imposed in several localities to discourage large gatherings and prevent further disturbances. The army stated that “some groups have tried to exploit the fragile environment,” warning that such actions have endangered citizens’ safety and worsened public losses.

Shops reopened in several neighborhoods by mid-day, and traffic resumed gradually, offering relief to residents who had remained indoors amid Tuesday’s chaos. Authorities said the measures would continue until peace is fully restored.
