Neeraj Chopra Smashes 90m Barrier, PM Modi Hails ‘Spectacular Feat’

National Times Bureau, May 17, 2025: Neeraj Chopra, India’s javelin ace, finally breached the 90-meter mark at the Doha Diamond League 2025 with a jaw-dropping throw of 90.23 meters. It came on his third attempt, turning a long-standing dream into reality and cementing his place in the global elite of track and field.

Although Chopra’s personal best lit up the arena, he finished second behind Germany’s Julian Weber, who threw a massive 91.06 meters. Yet, the moment was all about Chopra. For years, Indian athletics waited for this moment—and it arrived with power, grace, and pride.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the tributes, calling the throw a “spectacular feat” and praising Chopra’s “relentless dedication, discipline, and passion.” Modi added, “India is elated and proud.”

Chopra’s achievement wasn’t just a statistic—it was a message. It showed the world that an Indian athlete could push the limits in a discipline dominated by European greats. With this landmark throw, he didn’t just rewrite his own record—he inspired a generation.
