NDA Sweeps Bihar, Crosses 200-Seat Mark as Opposition Suffers Major Setback

Patna, November 14, 2025:The National Democratic Alliance is heading for a decisive victory in the Bihar Assembly elections, with counting trends showing the coalition comfortably moving beyond the 200-seat mark in the 243-member House. Early figures from the Election Commission indicate a commanding lead for both the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Janata Dal (United), positioning the NDA for one of its strongest performances in the state.

According to the latest trends, the BJP is ahead in nearly 90 seats, while JD(U) is tracking close behind with over 80 seats. Together, the partners appear poised to form the next government with a clear and overwhelming mandate.

The opposition Mahagathbandhan, led by the Rashtriya Janata Dal, is heading toward one of its poorest showings, with projections suggesting it may only secure between 30 and 40 seats. The disappointing performance marks a significant setback for the alliance, which had campaigned aggressively across the state.

This year’s election witnessed a record turnout of around 67 percent, with women voters casting ballots in greater numbers than men—an important shift in Bihar’s electoral landscape.

Some high-profile contests also drew public attention. In the Chapra seat, BJP candidate Chhoti Kumari defeated RJD’s prominent face Khesari Lal Yadav, adding to the challenges faced by the Mahagathbandhan.

Political observers say the mandate reflects voters’ preference for stability, development, and welfare-driven governance, themes heavily emphasized by NDA leaders during the campaign. The scale of the victory is expected to strengthen the NDA not only in Bihar but also in national political dynamics as other key state elections approach.

The final results are still being updated by the Election Commission, but the overall direction of the mandate leaves little doubt about Bihar’s next government.
