NCB Seeks Joint Interrogation of Bikram Singh Majithia in Drug Case with Punjab Vigilance Bureau

Bikram Singh Majithia Arrested by Punjab Vigilance Bureau in Fresh Disproportionate Assets Case

Amritsar (National Times): In a significant development linked to the ongoing crackdown on drug networks in Punjab, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has formally written to the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) seeking joint interrogation of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Punjab minister Bikram Singh Majithia, who was arrested on June 25.

According to an NCB official who shared the contents of the letter, Majithia was taken into custody by the vigilance bureau for his alleged role in facilitating massive laundering operations connected to drug money.

NCB Cites Seriousness of Offences

The letter, sent by the Amritsar zonal unit of the NCB, emphasizes the serious nature of the offences and highlights the necessity for a joint investigation. It states:

“Given the serious nature of the offence, his position, and the possible involvement of other individuals, it is crucial that all aspects of the case be thoroughly investigated.”

The NCB has requested that its officials be permitted to jointly interrogate Majithia alongside VB officers to ensure transparency and comprehensive coverage of all angles, including potential links to broader drug syndicates.

Request for Documents and Digital Evidence

In its communication, the NCB also asked for access to the First Information Report (FIR) filed against Majithia, along with any digital data, documents, and evidence seized by the Vigilance Bureau.

“It is requested to provide a copy of FIR of the said case and digital data extracted copy and other relevant documents seized and available with the vigilance bureau,” the letter reads.

Officials believe that collaboration between the two agencies may help unearth hidden networks, track money trails, and build a stronger legal case against those involved in drug trafficking and money laundering.

Background

Majithia, a prominent face in Punjab politics and brother-in-law of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal, has long been under scrutiny for alleged connections to the drug trade. Though he was previously granted bail in a separate NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act) case, his latest arrest marks a serious escalation in the legal proceedings against him.

The Vigilance Bureau’s case reportedly centers around financial irregularities and laundering of narcotics money, bringing a fresh angle to earlier investigations.
