New Delhi, December 13, 2025: Suspended Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu on Friday launched a sharp attack on the Bhagwant Mann-led Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab, alleging that it was providing protection to liquor and mining mafias and warning that any threat to her life would be the chief minister’s responsibility. She also sought security, citing what she described as a deteriorating law-and-order situation in the state.
In a post on X, Sidhu questioned the Punjab government’s silence on issues she claimed to have raised repeatedly, alleging that her concerns were being ignored despite the seriousness of the matters involved. Alongside the post, she shared a detailed letter addressed to Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, in which she accused the state government of presiding over what she termed the largest land-related scandal in Punjab’s history.
According to Sidhu, vast stretches of land in the ecologically sensitive Shivalik belt, including protected forest areas, were allegedly occupied illegally and later regularised under the current administration. She claimed that powerful land sharks had acquired plots ranging from one acre to nearly 10,000 acres at nominal prices and were now receiving legal backing, raising serious questions about governance and environmental protection.
Referring to her husband Navjot Singh Sidhu’s tenure as Punjab’s Local Bodies Minister, she said he had refused to clear files linked to such cases and had instead ordered an inquiry, suggesting that the issue had been known earlier but was never addressed firmly. She alleged that the situation had worsened under the present government.
Sidhu also expressed concern over rising crime, widespread availability of weapons and a growing sense of insecurity among residents. She claimed that fear had become pervasive, with many people considering leaving the state, and alleged that public faith in governance and law enforcement was steadily eroding.
Appealing to the Governor, Sidhu urged him to convene a special session of the Punjab Assembly to discuss what she described as urgent issues, including the protection of democratic institutions and matters related to honouring Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. She called for immediate intervention to restore accountability and public confidence in the administration.
