Nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ Call on February 12: Clarity on Schools, Banks and Transport Services

National Times Bureau :- Several organisations have called for a nationwide ‘Bharat Bandh’ on February 12 (Thursday) to press for various demands. A number of central trade unions and farmer groups have extended support to the strike, raising concerns among the general public about possible disruption to daily life.

With the bandh announcement gaining attention, many people are anxious about whether essential services, educational institutions and financial operations will be affected. Here is the current situation:

Schools and Colleges
The decision to keep schools and colleges open or closed largely rests with respective state governments and local administrations. As of now, no blanket order has been issued in most states mandating closure of educational institutions. However, in areas where protests are expected or where security concerns arise, some private institutions may opt to declare a holiday as a precautionary measure.

Banks
Banking operations are expected to function normally, as there has been no major announcement from banking unions regarding participation in the strike. Customers are likely to have access to regular banking services. That said, if demonstrations lead to road blockades or traffic disruptions, physical access to bank branches could be affected in certain areas.

Markets and Commercial Establishments
According to trade associations, major markets are likely to remain open. However, in sensitive or protest-prone areas, shopkeepers may choose to shut their establishments voluntarily for safety reasons.

Transport Services
Public transport services, including buses and trains, could face partial disruptions in some regions if protesters resort to road or rail blockades. Commuters are advised to check local advisories and plan their travel accordingly.

Essential Services
As with previous nationwide strikes, essential services are expected to remain operational. Hospitals, medical stores, ambulance services, fire departments and the supply of essential commodities such as milk and vegetables are likely to continue, though minor disruptions cannot be ruled out in certain localities.

Security Arrangements
Police authorities in several states have been placed on high alert to maintain law and order. Security has reportedly been tightened in sensitive zones, including border areas and major metropolitan regions, to prevent any untoward incidents.

Authorities have urged citizens to remain calm, follow official advisories and avoid spreading unverified information.
